Common Signs That Your Ice Maker Needs Repairing
Ice makers are relatively simple devices. However, we don't recommend trying to open up the machine and doing it yourself. Here are some common signs to look out for.
Machine Won't Turn On
As silly as this seems, the machine might simply be on pause. The ice bin may also be full and that automatically pauses the machine. Check for these before involving professionals.
The Control Arm Out Of Place
Most ice makers come with a control arm that moves as the ice bin fills. Once the bin is full, the arm will move out of place and pause the machine. Check to see if the arm is in the right place.
If the temperature is too low, the water risks freezing before it reaches the ice mold. If the temperature is too low, you can adjust it manually.
This is a maintenance tip that should be carried out regularly to maintain the machine's functioning. Check the instruction manual on how to do this. Also, check for clogs in the waterline.
Valve Might Be Broken
If there aren't any blocks in the machinery, then you may need to replace a valve. This is a job for the professionals and shouldn't be attempted by an amateur.
Frozen Water Line
If the waterline has frozen, turn off the power and give it time to defrost. If you want to speed up the process, you can use a hairdryer on a low setting. Make sure that the hairdryer doesn't touch any water.
Once everything has thawed, turn on the water. If this doesn't solve anything, then call us.
Less Ice Cubes than Normal
In ninety percent of cases, the line is beginning to freeze, or it's blocked by something. Follow the above steps to solve the issue.
Make sure that the ground that the refrigerator is on is level. The water supply line may have been compromised, as well. Give us a call and we'll come and take a look.
